About Us
Adasina Social Capital is an impact investing firm that believes investing with social justice values can deliver competitive financial performance and meaningful social progress.
The Adasina Story
Our co-founders Rachel J. Robasciotti and Maya Philipson launched Adasina Social Capital in 2020 as a different type of impact investing firm – one that bridges the gap between social justice movements and financial markets. The word “adasina” itself is a testament to this mission – it is derived from a similar word in Yoruba (“Adéṣínà”), an homage to Rachel J. Robasciotti’s West African ancestry, that means “she opens the way.”
Our unique approach evaluates publicly-traded companies and only invests in those that align with our community-sourced Social Justice Investment Criteria, which span racial, gender, economic, and climate justice. With over $300 million in current assets under management, we have seen firsthand that investing with social justice values can deliver competitive financial performance while creating meaningful social progress.
The Adasina Difference
Unlike other firms, Adasina partners with social justice organizations to inform our investment decisions. Our products incorporate our proprietary Social Justice Investment Criteria, a robust set of metrics and datasets that encompass community-defined racial, gender, economic, and climate justice issues. The results are products that only invest in companies that align with core social justice principles.
We believe this approach is advantageous to all types of investors because it considers the myriad potential risks that many social justice issues pose – risk that is, for the most part, widely underpriced in the public markets. So, whether your priority issue is ending the climate crisis, advancing the rights of women and gender expansive people, ensuring economic equality, or upholding racial justice, Adasina’s products align with your values and enables your portfolio to achieve impact at the scale of the public markets.
Our Theory of Change
Adasina leads investors in leveraging our power in public markets to advance movements for racial, gender, economic, and climate justice. We realize our Theory of Change by partnering with social justice movements to identify impactful metrics; proving social justice metrics are investable by being the first asset manager to invest; and mobilizing investors to support large-scale movements for systemic change.
OUR DIVERSITY
The financial industry has always struggled with diversity – 70% of financial professionals are white and 72% of financial advisors are men, according to a 2024 report by Abacus Wealth. At Adasina, we’re proud of our diverse team and company ownership structure, which seeks to amplify the expertise and perspective of communities historically excluded from finance.
