Surveillance Technology & Your Portfolio
Communities across the country are pushing back against the rapid expansion of surveillance technology. Grassroots campaigns like Get the Flock Out and DeFlock are sounding the alarm on government contracts with Flock Safety — a private company that deploys automated license-plate-reading (ALPR) cameras in neighborhoods nationwide.
This expansion of surveillance isn’t just a privacy issue. It’s a civil liberties issue that affects all of us. The ACLU has warned that surveillance networks like Flock’s can enable broad, warrantless tracking, wrongful arrests, and the targeted monitoring of immigrants, protestors, people seeking reproductive healthcare, and other marginalized groups.
Surveillance technology is not new, and neither are the warnings from racial justice movements about the harm it can inflict. For years, Black, Brown, and immigrant communities have named the real risks of technologies designed to monitor, track, and criminalize their lives. At Adasina, we have listened to and partnered with those movements from the beginning. That is why our Social Justice Investment Criteria exclude publicly traded companies involved in immigrant surveillance, like Axis Communications.

We believe movements closest to the harm are often first to see the risks ahead for all communities. When they sound the alarm, investors have both an opportunity and a responsibility to act before the consequences reach further into all communities and portfolios.
When you invest with Adasina, your portfolio becomes a source of power to advance civil liberties and racial justice.
If you haven’t already, now is the time to ask: Are your investments quietly supporting the same technology you’re protesting?
Already invested with us? Here’s how you can take deeper action:
- Support local DeFlock efforts in your community.
- Share this message to help grow our movement of aligned investors.
- Subscribe to our mailing list for updates on our upcoming racial justice campaign, focused on immigrant rights.
